I've long been aware that exposure to the sun poses dangers beyond uncomfortable burns. And I've recently been reminded by a small growth that I had removed from just below my left eye.
Precancerous, the dermatologist said, so I'm not anticipating any consequences beyond the annoyance of having the thing removed with a dose of liquid nitrogen. Meanwhile, I've been warned to apply my sunscreen every day, even when I'm just hanging around the house. And I'll be sure to supplement that with protective clothing such as my sun gloves and face shield from Fish Age when I'm going to be on the water any length of time.

The Fish Age sun gloves, with an MSRP of $19.99, are made of the highest grade of Lycra and are incredibly light weight. With their fish pattern fabric, they really look cool, in addition to actually being cool.
The face shields, which come in both summer and winter weights, are made with hollow fibers for fast wicking. Just pull the shield over your head so that the fabric tube covers your nose, cheeks, ears and neck. Add a hat and a pair of sunglasses. You're fully protected from the sun's UV rays.
MSRP for the face shields is $24.90. Available patterns are gar, chum salmon, steelhead and pike.
Patterns for the sun gloves had been the same as for the face shields, but they are being replaced with tarpon, bonefish, rainbow trout and black bass.
I know, having to protect yourself from the sun is a drag. But melanoma is nasty stuff. In fact, it can be downright deadly. And a bit of prevention now seems like a small price to pay for avoiding that tragedy in the future.
